Yes, I DO Think Mamdani's Win in the NYC Primaries is Very Good!
Did I mention that it's hot outside?
General News
I say, “Lettuce sea,” and all of a sudden I’m being dragged through the desert and nailed to a crucifix and left out in the desert sun to die a Biblical death! Goddamn! Give me a break, I don’t even live there. In case it absolutely needs to be said before I am stoned to death, I am glad that the New York City Democrats chose Zohran Mamdani over former Mayor and massive Creep Andrew Cuomo for the 2025 Mayoral Election (and anyone else running). Mamdani is a democratic socialist who has been endorsed by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (My President) and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14). His campaign embraces rent control, police budget cuts, public utilities, state-owned grocery stores, and idk probably many other decent things that we on the left yearn for. YES, I HAVE BEEN PAYING ATTENTION, OKAY? Do you want to know what I was dealing with on Tuesday? A broken A/C unit while we were enduring a HEATWAVE and my dog wouldn’t stop BARKING at the maintenance guy while he fixed it for like AN HOUR. Sorry that I wasn’t in the mental headspace to act more excited! Sorry that I might be reserving my “hopium” for something Local! Not everyone is obsessed with New York City.
And the Democrats are being wildly racist and Not Normal about Mamdani…that didn’t take long! Speaking of things that are also Not Normal and didn’t take long, the Supreme Court really gave the a-okay on deporting people. Every day, America becomes a little more like Nazi Germany. We’re veering hard and fast into horrendous territory. Whatever the Orange Cumrag is up to, I don’t like one bit of it. Thankfully, people in power are expressing concern. Would be cool if they did more than just “jab” at one another with their words, but I am not implying or even alluding to physical violence. Maybe. Before I move into more Local News, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the Access to Birth Control Act, introduced to Congress by Representative Robin Kelly (IL-02). Though the press release on her website states that the act has over 40 co-sponsors, I am not finding a list of co-sponsors. I urge you all to email or call your representatives TODAY to advocate for this act. I called and emailed mine this morning. Please take time for this.
Damn, looks like I may really have to quit smoking cigarettes. Other things that would suck include this piece of work from the Orange Cumrag. Who else is starting to think that cops are useless and don’t deserve the excessive amount of funding that they receive? Goddamn. While many of us were hoping and praying that Based Billionaire Daddy Pritzker would run in the 2028 US Presidential election, I am here to announce that he will not be doing so as he seeks another term as Illinois Governor. I’m glad that we get to keep him, but a little disappointed. Who else is going to run? Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg? Imagine having an openly out gay president. Not the first gay one, though–I bet money we’ve had at least 20. Anyway, here’s a cool piece by Daddy Pritzker on abortion. And here’s a completely unrelated cool piece about the evolution of Chicago’s rats. In all seriousness, here’s a cool piece on a memorial built in honor of a Palestinian boy who was unjustly murdered by an absolute maniac. My heart goes out to all Palestinian people. Solidarity forever.

Personal News

Spent my Sunday on the streets of Chicago with comrades and queers. It felt good to be marching in solidarity with Palestine and against ICE within the big Rainbow Capitalism parade. Sucks that companies like McDonald’s and big real estate development losers had floats in the parade. People like us gotta remind everyone that nobody is free until we are all free, right? Anyway, I don’t have much to report on. Don’t forget that I have two ongoing fundraisers: this one that ends on July 10 and the other that’ll continue for another few months. I guess I have something to mention, but it’s too pre-mature to announce. I’ll be cooking up a book review soon. TBD.
Very exciting garden updates below:

Poetry
Left from the drafts: “READ PET SOUNDS, IDIOT.” Lmao. I have this collection of poetry that was once awarded the Lambda Literary Award for like…Best Bisexual Poetry, or something? I wanted to grab something a little less popular than Emily Dickinson or Jericho Brown or Chen Chen or like idk any other Big Name Poet. Obscure poets are fun to explore! So, without further ado: Stephanie Young is an American poet, activist, and scholar. She lives in Oakland, California (source). For our final day of Pride Month, I bring to you a poet of the bisexual and Marxist persuasion. We sure love our bisexual Marxists, don’t we?
